How long have you been in the school transportation industry?
Almost 40 years
How long have you been with Student Transportation of America / the STA Family of Companies?
10 years. I was there from the start.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy driving plus conversing with most of the students, especially the elementary students.
What is something important or unique about your role that others may not realize?
Most people do not realize that there is a lot of responsibility, especially taking students to and from school. Safety is of utmost importance.
Can you share a memorable story or experience from your time with STA?
At the end of last school year, I was surprised that several students gave me gifts during the last 3 days of school. I was overwhelmed and very appreciative.
Every line of work has its ups and downs. What helps to motivate you during challenging times?
I try to keep a positive attitude every day, If the day before was bad I completely erase that and start from the beginning. I always say “good morning” to all my students and smile.
What advice or encouragement would you offer to someone considering joining the STA Family?
You need to have a positive attitude from the beginning and have a lot of patience. For example, on the first day of school I always introduce myself and go over rules that are expected daily. I do this for all my routes.
Words of praise from Liz’s Supervisor…
“Liz was one of our first employees when we started the Fort Bend site. She has stayed with us all 10 years. She is extremely reliable and has a good attitude. She works well with her coworkers and management. If we have something (potluck, etc.) Liz is going to participate. She is professional and takes care of her students from start to finish. We appreciate having her on our team.”
